Welcome to the digivation archives! Between 2006 and 2009, digivation.net served as a creative outlet for Matthew Smith and, on occasion, Michael Chappel. Since 2010 or so, both Michael and Matthew have been preoccupied with other persuits and digivation has fallen into disuse. While the digivation.net domain is being repurposed for other things, this archive will serve to keep the content available for posterity.

Search Rankings Revisited… Again

Last summer I did a little investigation as to how well my website ranked on Google for various search terms (a little one sided, but Google is the biggest search engine). When I [first][1] did the study, I looked at several terms.

Senior Design

My CDR (Critical Design Review) is due on Monday, so the weekend has been spent attempting to complete the remaining parts of the document. Last semester when my team and I wrote our PDR (Preliminary Design Review), we spent a hectic evening emailing word documents back and forth in an attempt to collaboratively produce a coherent document. The result was less than satisfactory (in fact I was rather embarrassed).

David, You Are Most Excellent!

So, I randomly decided to head over to my friend [David Comeaux’s site][1] and check out his latest music… and I must say, I am quite pleased with the aural goodness hiding in the nooks and crannies! David’s latest song [Calendar][2], is an excellent example of his music. Over the years, David’s style has become more polished and matured, and I must say, I really like where it’s heading. Keep it up Dave!

Spring Break or Something Like It

Spring break – a time of collegiate debauchery, comradery, and sunburn-ery. For me, this year’s spring break was nothing more than another week working in Macon to replenish the bank account. I did manage to squeeze in a bit of hanging out and hot tubbing (I’m not the only broke college student in Macon), complete a little homework, acquire a new part time job (to keep me from going broke again before summer time), and relax a little.

The Church Bells are Ringing!

Its getting to be that time of year again, the time when flowers bloom, the grass turns green, and… my friends get married. The hitchings include (there were so many I had to make a list), but are not limited too:

reinvigorate me

For a while I’ve been using [Google Analytics][1] to keep abreast of my site statistics. I recently discovered (and registered with) [reinvigorate][2]. First, second, and third impression? I like it a lot! I’ll elaborate later.

I Don’t Think I’ll Ever Get Over You

Tammy and Me“Some things are meant to be” others … aren’t. Yesterday marked the end of an amazing four (almost five) month relationship with one of the most amazing women I know. The worst part of the whole thing? We still love each other.

Dual Monitor Matthew

A while back I managed to get a hold of a few non-functional LCD monitors. Yesterday I finally got around to repairing one of them and I now have a nifty dual-monitor setup. Only problem is that my desk isn’t quite right for two screens, but it will work for now! This should make video editing, research, and various other computing activities a little easier (less window minimizing).

More Videographical Madness (Offroading)

I just finished up another short from the Kaolin Mines ([see part 1][1]), this time with more stills, better video, and more vehicles! This one’s definitely a basket of giggles. Oh, and my video editing skills are getting better (I think).

Where in the World is Matthew?

Sorry for the long absence – I’m trying to get about a million things in order, in addition to adding a few things to the site. Hang tight! I’ll be back, I promise.

Offroading Video

Playtime at a local offroading spot! Short (dark) video of a friend and me riding this evening. This was taken with a digital camera, so don’t hate on the quality too much! Of course, post processing was done with more powerful tools. Enjoy!

The Thanksgiving Post

For those of us in the good ‘ole US of A, today is Thanksgiving, a celebration of our ancestors’ successful voyage across the Atlantic almost 400 years ago. Today, families from Georgia to Washington stuffed their faces with food and reminisced about the things for which they are thankful.

ATO Alpha Zeta 2006 Recruitment Materials

This year’s recruitment program was a great success fueled by both the brothers’ enthusiasm and the excellent gentlemen who participated in the recruitment program. As mentioned in a prior article, I am the 2006-2007 recruitment chair for my chapter. I also shared some of [my ideas][1] on building excitement amongst the brothers and the recruits during and prior to the actual recruitment event. In the article I mentioned a few materials that I created for recruitment, which I will be releasing for the first time to the public here. Please note that these are released under a Creative Commons license, meaning that you are free to use them or modify them to suit your own recruitment strategies. This was the sort of resource that I was hunting for when I began preparing my recruitment program, and I hope that these items will help you succeed in your own. (Continue to the next page for previews and downloads!)

Senior Design

I’m neck-deep in senior design and not happy about it. At the moment, my group is hard at work on our Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and it is due on Monday. I’ll attempt to muster the strength to post all my long-overdue items sometime after that.

Google Reader Overhaul

If you havn’t tried [Google Reader][1] yet, I recommend giving it a spin. It’s been my RSS viewer of choice for some time now, due to its simple interface and the fact that I didn’t have to signup for another service (its one of Google’s many web apps). Recently, Google Reader has been updated with many new features that make staying on top of the latest updates a breeze. Recommended!

Recruitment, School, and Life in General

As I sit here writing this post, the mountainous tasks that lie between me and the weekend appear insurmountable. When I actually try and think clearly about things, my mind feels numb and unresponsive ā€“ and Iā€™m already halfway done with that mountain of tasks. This week seems to be the culmination of the slowly growing backlog of work that has been assembling since the very first week of school. Senior year ā€“ wow; but let us run back to the beginning, seeing as how there have been so few updates since the beginning of fall semester.

Recruitment Update

It’s been a few days since my last post. Never fear, I’m still alive and well, although a tad on the stressed out side (which you should find rather odd if you know me) as I am in charge of recruitment. On the bright side, we’re doing quite nicely and I believe I’m still on track for my goal of thirty pledges.
